We had to make 3 slides and then it was converted into a GIF.
We had to make messages about avoiding scams and phishing.

Then we had to create our own media of us doing something impossible at school

What is Media?

Today we talked about media and what we use everyday.

We found media in our class like the tv, computers and logos on our t-shirts and shorts.

Tuia 250

What did you do in the holidays? Some of us got involved in the Tuia 250 events. Read what Ollie and Josh got up to.

Last week I wanted to go to the wharf. My nan and grandad said yes. So I got in the car and nan drove Hunter and I to the wharf. Surprisingly we saw the Police boat. Quickly Hunter and I rushed on to the boat. I saw some of the rooms then hopped off.

I was going on the Spirt of New Zealand with Owen because I was staying at Owen's house. They showed us all the rooms like the toilets, where they slept, the kitchen, the lunchroom, the control room. The best bit was seeing the eating room. 
We got to the boats by the steam train.

The Explore Tool and Rugby World Cup

This week we were using the Explore Tool in 

Google Slides to find images that are labelled for reuse.

We are in country teams of the Rugby World Cup so we found out some information about the team we are in.

Playground Places to Play

This week we used our selfie from last week and removed the background from it so we could insert it on top of another photo.

Playing at School + Screencastify

Spring String Art

Room 4 have been creating spring paintings for our assembly  using the string art method.
First we painted a background which needs to be wet when you apply the paint on the string.
Next you cut a length of sting and cover it with paint. You may choose as many colours as you like.
Then you gently lay the string on your back ground in an S shape.
Gently push the string down so that it is all touching the canvas.
The last thing you do is to drag the string down and a magical flower appears.
This was a messy but fun activity.

Winter Poems & Screencastify

This week we were leanring how to use Screencastify.

We created a Winter Poem by practising "drag and drop".

We recorded ourselves reading our poem.

Plastic in our ocean

Room 4 have been looking at the impact that plastic has on our marine environment.
You’ve probably seen videos of these impacts first hand, like a sea turtle with a plastic straw stuck in its nose or a whale trapped in a fishing net, and divers that release it from harm. Some of these incidents have happy endings, but in reality, many more do not.
We have spent the last week picking up plastic in our school grounds that may very well end up in our waterways and then eventually into the ocean. We have been filling our paper mache whales with this plastic and creating environmental art that reflects how we feel about this problem.

Science Fair

We are entering the Science Fair.

As a class we are making mini green houses. 

We have to work in pairs of 2. 

We put bubble wrap on one  and plain plastic on our  other mini green house. 

We are experimenting about what material is best for making a green house - plastic or bubble wrap.

Holiday Connections

Today we talked about the holidays and what we did, where we went and who we connected with in the holidays.

We had to add a background of somewhere we went

and add images of people we connected with.

Ziggy is getting really big.

He eats tadpoles and fish.

He is really strong.

We know this because he has moved all the rocks into one corner.

Poor Knights Island trip

This was a video that was taken of Stephens trip.

The Marine Reserve

Earlier this year Room 4 visited Kaiti beach, then we went to the  Marine Reserve and compared the two areas. We had a fantastic time! Then our classmate Stephen Bennett was lucky enough to win a trip to Poor Knights Island. You can see the difference in the two areas. Pretty amazing experience.

As we work on being Cybersmart we are adding

This week we were using Google Drawing to draw a ship.

Peter was able to insert shapes, recolour the shapes, resize the shapes, arrange the shapes, mask the image he found of a pirate flag....what a lot of learning he did today.

I wonder what else he will add to his ship?

We have been learning about the 

Kawa of Care and how to look after our devices.

Here is Beau's work that he did in Google Drawings.

He was able to insert shapes and add text to the shape as well as change the font and colour of the shapes.

Cybersmart Lessons

This year we are working with Mrs Torrie on being Cybersmart.

We will work with her every week.

Today we were demonstrating how to use the "forklift hold" 

when carrying our device.

We had to "hug and hold" as we walked 

so we could see where we were walking.

We will be adding this to our Kawa of Care which is our treaty about looking after our devices.
